Computer Memory or Storage Devices

Memory is the most essential part of the computer. We need memory to store the data. This storage enables us to use the stored data to in future. Computer memory is mainly divided as primary and secondary memory. The memory and storage devices are measured in terms of bits and bytes.

Computer Output Devices

Output is the result/information that is obtained after processing. The information must be presented in the human understandable form (usually from O's and l' to English Kannada or any other language) is capable of presenting information on to the output devices. There are many output devices attached with the computer. The monitors and printers are commonly used output devices.

Computer Input Devices

An input device is used to feed data into a computer. Input devices are capable of converting data into a form which can be recognized by computer. A computer can have several input devices. Namely Keyboard, Mouse, Joystick, OCR, MICR etc.

The way computers process the information can be broadly classified into three categories.

We will see applications of computers in every field. Some of the main applications are:
1.    Computers in Education
                   i.   At colleges computers are used to teach courses.
                  ii.   Computers are used to store and process educational information.
               iii.   Used to prepare time-table, examination result, staff information and payroll processing.

Generations of Modern Computers

Before Going to see the generations of modern computer we have to see first their history. The ‘Abacus’ was the calculating machine probably originated in China about 3000 years ago is considered as the first computer. This device allows users to make computations using a system of sliding beads arranged on a frame.

Functional components of a computer:

A computer is made up of 4 functional components. They are:
1.    Input unit
2.    Central processing unit(CPU)
a.     Control unit
b.    Arithmetic unit
c.     Registers
3.    Memory unit
4.    Output unit
